Lebenslauf

Guido is from Germany, studied and received his PhD at the University of Regensburg and spent his postdoc time at the Carnegie Institution for Science, Stanford, USA. He started his own group at the Center for Organismal Studies, University of Heidelberg and is full professor at HHU since 2020. Guido is particularly interested in the "social networks" inside cells, in the soil rhizosphere and certainly also among humans.

Lebenslauf

To protect crops in times of antimicrobial resistant bacteria my research focus on the development of sustainable biocontrol methods to protect plants from bacterial diseases. At the interface of microbiology, plant science and sustainable agriculture, I investigate the potential of bacteriophages (phages) - viruses that are specific to bacteria, to protect plants against diseases. Aiming to improve our understanding of the tripartite interaction at the molecular level and thereby identify strategies for plant biocontrol utilizing phages. I look forward to connecting with others interested in sustainable biocontrol!

Postdoc
Dr. Marjorie Guichard
marjorie.guichard(at)hhu.de
+49 211 81-14688

Lebenslauf

Marjorie comes from France. She graduated and did her Ph.D. at Université Paris-Saclay, on the campus of Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique of Gif-sur-Yvette. She joined the Grossmann lab in 2019. She is interested in discovering novel interacting partners of the Rho GTPase ROP2, using the recent technology of biotin ligase-based proximity labeling. She is also fond of image analysis automation, and the development of tools facilitating every day’s lab work.

PhD Student
Christian-Frederic Kaiser

Lebenslauf

Christian is from Germany, has studied Biology at the University of Bonn, graduated in pharmaceutical biology and since 2020 is a PhD candidate in the CEPLAS gradschool for plant science. Christian is investigating how plant roots acclimate to changing environmental conditions while interacting with soil bacteria by utilising soil-on-a chip approaches based on microfluidics and 3D printing.

Lebenslauf

I am interested in how plants survive in unusual environments, such as deserts. We all know that water is essential to sustain life, so how do the desert species live when it rains only a couple times a year? Late Embryogenesis Abundant proteins have long been hypothesized as key components of desiccation tolerance phenotype, but the mechanistic understanding of their role in it is still lacking. I use Arabidopsis thaliana and desiccation-tolerant Craterostigma plantagineum as a model to study these proteins, their regulation, and mechanisms of action. Another goal of my project is to develop a reliable approach to imaging of dry cells.

PhD student
Daša Wernerová
dasa.wernerova(at)hhu.de

Lebenslauf

In her PhD project, Daša investigates RopGEF3 dynamics during root hair morphogenesis in A. thaliana roots. She is interested in all things microscopy, particularly fluorescence imaging of live cells. She brought her expertise in 3D printing to ICIB, designing and printing tools for everyday use in the lab.
Daša obtained her bachelor’s degree in Biotechnology and Gene Engineering, and master’s degree in Experimental Plant Biology. During her master studies she established the use of FS, a pH-sensitive dye, as a novel tool for visualization of root surface pH. Furthermore, she developed genetically encoded pH sensors.
